Dr. Jerrold Hiura

Dr. Jerrold Hiura was born in Chicago, Illinios but has lived in the Bay Area since the age of 7. After graduating from Willow Glen High School, San Jose, he attended the University of California at Berkeley, graduating with a BS in Biology and a BS in Physiologic Optics. Following graduate work at Harvard, he went on to complete his DDS from Washington University School of Dental Medicine in 1976. He joined his father's practice soon after in Japantown, San Jose. In 2008, he moved across the street to a completely renovated and expanded office space. Dr. Hiura's treatment philosophy begins and ends with preventative care. "Motivating patients to high levels of tissue management which preserves support for the teeth is key to successful treatment." He comes from a family of 16 dentists who are, or were at one time, practicing in the Bay area. He is a member of the ADA, CDA and SCCDS. Dr. Hiura also serves as an advisor on dental legislation to Assembly member Paul Fong. Active in the arts community, Dr. Hiura served as the Chair of the City of San Jose's Arts Commission and was President of the Arts Council of Silicon Valley. In 2002, he was appointed by Governor Gray Davis to the California State Arts Council where he served as Vice Chair. He is also the co-founder of the Contemporary Asian Theater Scene (CATS) and the Japantown Community Congress of San Jose (JCC). He is also a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum of Silicon Valley. Dr. Hiura lives in Los Gatos with his wife and has four grandkids. He enjoys hiking, painting, traveling, golf and continues a deep involvement in the Japantown and arts communities.
