Dr Shahriar Shimi

The absolute worst work I've ever received (and unfortunately, I go to the dentist OFTEN). I decided to try somewhere closer to my house and what a mistake that was. I received 4 fillings from Dr. Shimi, all of which I am forced to re-do this year because of his poor work. All of the teeth he worked on are rough, include gaps where food gets stuck and are shaped just wonky. I've seen another dentist since and before I said anything he instantly noticed the poor work that was done.His clinic is great overall, clean with all the latest gadgets but unfortunately his skill is not even sub-par.

I read through some negative reviews here and all I can say is that this was the best dental experience by far that I have had in the past 15 years. I was treated courteously when I made the appt., and when I went in. Hygienist was amazing, no discomfort (usually is), everything was explained, medical history explored in detail, so there was no anxiety at all about procedures. My check up with Dr. Shimi was great, he introduced himself, shook hands, and again, everything was explained in detail and absolutely no pressure for elective procedures. I felt very ,very confident in his diagnosis , no dire warnings , plenty pf recognition for what I am doing correctly, and gentle suggestions about that which I am not .if you are looking for a new dentist, and this is my 6th in 15 years because of moving, I sincerely do recommend Yonge Smiles .

Can't ask for a better dentist, hygienist and staff! Love going to the dentist! Who says that these days?

What a traumatizing/horrible incident I had with this doctor a few years ago. I felt uncomfortable the entire time during a crown placement. The size of the crown mold was too big and he basically forced it into my mouth for several minutes which resulted in a silent anxiety attack on my behalf since it felt like my teeth were about to shatter from the force. He then proceeded to tell me "not to act like a child" because I decided to tell him that the mold might be too big. He is definitely not a genuine person, as all he probably cares about is the rave music playing in the background. I also had a terrible experience with his exceptionally rude secretary and was overcharges several hundred dollars more that they initially quoted. I have perfectly good oral health and there were no complications other than the fact that the mold he received was much larger than it was supposed to be (which is his fault ). I was traumatized and disgusted by the entire overpriced experience. Don't be fooled and go elsewhere.

I had Dr. Shimi place 3 implants for me in the last year. His expertise in this field is second to none. I had a few consults prior to having this work done and he was the only one who confidently assured me that his treatment will provide me with the right result in my challenging case. Having the work done from beginning to end in one location with Dr. Shimi at Yonge Smiles is, in my opinion, the best way and the only way to have your implants taken care of. I highly recommend this office, the Dr. and the friendly staff.

I was referred to Dr. shimi's office through a friend. It was actually out of my way to go to this office but after talking to Tanya over the phone I decided to go for a consultation. I initially called for invisalign however, I'm now going to Dr. shimi's office for regular maintenance. I was really nervous and hesitant to get the invisalign but after discussions with dr. Shimi's, Tanya and other hygienists that shared their experiences with me I decided to proceed and i have never been happier. Not only do I have a great smile but I have continued to see dr. Shimi for regular check up's. The hygienists are very thorough, and Tanya has been so helpful. Thank you Yonge Smiles for a great smile.

The receptionist isn't helpful or courteous. The dentist is nice enough but not very experienced and made major mistakes. Hygienist is average. Showy office and charges highly to maintain it. Stick with your own dentist or one of your family's or friends who've had work done. Bottom line don't go here!

Let me start off by saying that Dr. Shimi is the best dentist I have ever encountered. I had a very bad experience previously and didnt recieve dental care for over 10 years and was absolutly terrified but when calling Yonge Street Smiles I was shocked that the office manager took the time to talk to me for 45 minutes. She answered all my questions and actually made me feel less insucure about coming into the office for my initial consultation. When arriving, the office atmosphire was very calming and I was greeted with such warmth and quite frankly I felt like I was amongst friends than in a dentist office. The staff is absolutly amazing with the way they handled my fear and lack of general knowledge of procedures.They took their time to explain every procedure step by step even though I am some what of a difficult patient. I also have a major fear of needles and can't believe that I literally had no pain!. Dr Shimi is one of a kind and I recommend him to everyone.

I was introduced to this office through a family member. They have been more than accomodating, caring, friendly and helpful. Tanya runs an efficient office. She is available to discuss issues or make emergency apts after hours. This is rare in our society today. Tanya is always giving extra attention to making your visit run smoothly from the initial phone call to the final paperwork. I have recommended Dr Shimi to many friends and family. The doctor has wonderful bedside manor. He educates as he is performing the service. I have felt like more than a patient when in his chair. Dr Shimi has compassion. I have felt special on more than one occasion, whether I was being squeezed in for an apt to fit my schedule or level of pain from a broken tooth. Thanks for being a great dentist office...There is no need to feel nervous, if all dentists offices ran with such good energy!

I was one of Dr. Shimi's patients for over a year. I found him to be an extremely polite and knowledgeable dentist. He took the time to exam my teeth, did not recommend unnecessary procedures, and his hygienist was one of the best that I ever had the pleasure of working with. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about his receptionist - which is the main reason why I left the practice. She is extremely impatient and unfortunately unfortunately insensitive to middle eastern ethnic minorities. This is extremely ironic considering Dr. Shimi's ethnic background. Unfortunately, on more than one occasion I noticed her brushing off minorities. I must caution you to take this with a grain of salt. It could have been a coincidence that happened more than once. Personally, I left the practice solely because of her demeaning attitude towards me which was unfortunate because I really liked Dr. Shimi.

I personally didn't find him very honest. He came across as friendly but it wasn't genuine. I found him sketchy and I felt like he only explained things out of obligation. Wasn't really interested. His hygienist was good but too pushy when recommending procedures. I respect the fact that it's their job to "make suggestions" regarding one's dental care but at the same time, they need to respect the fact that "no" means "no". With reference to another rating, I miss Dr. Babul too.

I can truly state: not only is Dr. Shimi the best dentist I have ever had the fortune to find, he may very well be the most skilled medical practitioner I have ever needed. My teeth are no longer sensitive to hot/cold/sweets after he restored enamel coatings a year ago. The dental hygienists are expert in their own right offering professional advice on best practices for a perfect lifetime smile. :) THANK YOU YONGE ST. SMILES TEAM!

Dr. Shimi and his amazing team not only rebuilt my smile, but they gave me all the reasons in the world to want to smile. I was never judged, criticized or made to feel bad in anyway about my teeth. The focus was always what they could do for me, how they could make me happier and healthier. The dream team at Yonge Smiles are always patient and kind and will help ease all your worries and fears. I have undergone several extractions, and since been fitted with an upper and lower partial. I knew last fall when I came into Yonge Smiles for the first time that I had a long road ahead of me to get my oral health in check. WOW that long road was a gentle walk in the park. The entire process from start to finish was painless, easy and truly enjoyable. I have a brand new smile and full functionality that I had been missing for years. I feel brand new and I owe it to Dr. Shimi!

Dr. Shimi has been my family dentist for over 4 years now and I have attended his office for general cleanings, fillings and, most recently, my invisaligns. I could not be any happier with the professional service that I have received over the years from Dr. Shimi's office, from the friendly staff, to Dr. Shimi himself.

Since moving to Ontario, my family and I have been seeing Dr. Shimi and I can honestly say that the friendliness and integrity of all of the staff is top notch. The overall atmosphere of the clinic is very calming. I have even gotten two impacted wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Shimi, who was very meticulous and vigilant throughout the entire process. He made sure that I understood everything that was going on and tried to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. After the removal, I did not even have to take any painkillers! The oral hygienists at the clinic are also very caring, and they always try to ensure the best possible experience each and every time. When concerned about the colour of my teeth, I was given free whitening products and information on the subject. Everyone at Yonge Smiles is so personable and genuine that you can't go wrong. I fully recommend the the clinic, Dr. Shimi, all his staff, and the dental services offered.

This is NOT to rate the doctor but the staff of his clinic. The administrator was only interested in my insurance policy. She became very offensive and rude mannered very quickly when I inquired about payment and how my insurance policy would be charged, as if this had nothing to do with me, then she denied me treatment with the Dentist, despite my pain, lying then the dentist was not in, when I could hear him in the clinic rooms. They were more interested in my insurance policy then treating me. I think this clinic is more bout "Insurance Policy Care", then "Patient Care". I would never return there, and the only reason why I did before I was denied treatment was because I was in great pain, but they showed that if you question the way your insurance will be charged then they refuse to treat you; very unethical.

I recently finished having 3 dental implants placed at Yonge Smiles. I was referred by a friend who had 5 implants placed and was very happy. I had already had 2 implants placed at another office previously. Well actually 2 offices, because my last dentist had to send me to the specialist to get my surgical portion done. Very inconvenient and costly. Dr. Shimi did all the work from beginning to end and I was very comfortable overall and am ecstatic about my new smile. I highly recommend this office for dental implants.

This is even more concerning when so many of the lack lustre comments surviving here are obviously fabricated falsehoods. I want to restate the service provided by Dr. Shimi and his staff at Yonge Smiles is simply the best dental service I have received in my lifetime. End of story. I have been a patient of Dr. Shimi since he started his new office in Richmond Hill. I continue to use him for my dental works because his genuine care and professional approach and skilful treatment have really impressed me. Dr. Shimi explains all procedure needed or are optional and leaves the decision making to the patient. His office also follows up on each visit and even have Dr.’s private cell phone number available to the patients to ensure there is no discomfort to them at all times. I don’t know what else one can expect from a health related service provider.

I just joined Dr. Shimi's practice, and have only good things to say about his work and his staff. This is an office that will strive to meet you at every step of the way. Whether youre available morning, afternoon, evening, or weekend, they offer flexible hours to accomodate your schedule. The moment you walk in the office, youre asked about what you want and from that moment on every part of the treatment planning revolves around your needs. You will always be given options and explanations. The technology at this office is first class. The practice is equipped with digital xrays, which can be displayed on a screen in the operatory for easy viewing within seconds of being taken. They also have intra-oral cameras, what better way to get understanding by seeing first hand in your mouth? There is a library of videos the hygienist can show you, to help you understand things like brushing, or something complicated like implants. On top of that everythings presented in a kind, helpful way.

As previously mentioned by other comments, Dr.Shimi is only concerned about $$$ not his patients. Dr.Shimi and Tanya both come off as people who sincerely care about you and want to help you in any way they can and they promise to take as much as they can from your insurance. Guess what? They submit random claims through your insurance that you don't even know about and never consent to. They are very pushy and talk you into doing things that you don't even need to do. Be very careful and do yourself a favour and find a dentist who is actually HONEST and cares about YOU! Very disappointed and worried about how as a dentist he has chosen to run his practice..won't last long!

I have had nothing but more than pleasant experiences at his office. Tanya and the staff are great and the facility is top notch. I have had cavities and wisdom teeth taken care of at his office and not once did I feel pain or discomfort. I will continue to see DR.Shimi and am looking forward to my next visit.

As a long time loyal patient of Dr. Shimi, I can't help but take offense to the obvious smear campaign against Dr. Shimi by this one person posting under multiple accounts with the same beef. Anybody who has ever been a patient at this office knows that Dr. Shimi's character and care for his patients is second to none. His education and exposure in the media also highlight his knowledge and accomlishments in his profession. I guess there's no penalty or checkpoints in place for people to spew out all they want on review boards but it' not hard to see through their obvious agenda...

First, I have to say that the minute you step in Dr. Shimi's clinic, you know right away that you will be in good hands. The staff is amazingly professional, friendly and caring. As far as Dr. Shimi's treatments, the results talk for themselves. My teeth never looked so good. He has always been completely professional in explaining what he is doing and treatment options as well as offering price options. INEXPERIENCED, OVERCHARGED, PUSHY,MEAN STAFFS. Not surprising form people who priased this dentist and his staff. "It's a fraud." It seems to come form the same source. You can tell by the same style of wording and writing. Here is the real thing. They inherited me from Dr.Babul so I gave them the opportunity. I should be able to tell from my first encounter, 3 needles to nump my tooth. I still gave them the chance. He advised me to do a work which was not necessary and ended up with root canal infection. However, my last straw is when I discovered that they overcharged and double charged for the services they provided. NO MORE. I need a dentist who I can trust and has the knowledge of what he is doing. This is my horrible experience. Make me hate this profession more and more. Be aware of this office.

My kids and I used Dr. Shimi as a dentist for a short period when we were new in Richmond Hill. The office staff was nice and friendly, but Dr. Shimi needs to make more efforts on his job. My son had a dental cleaning first, it was done by Dr. Shimi himself. I left my son with him, then after we got home,I found his teeth was not thoroughly cleaned. My dental cleaning appointment with Dr. Shimi was the worst experience ever. He pressed so hard when he was scaling, the water was splashed all over on my face, I could also feel the impatience, he wanted to get the job done quickly. At the end, since he didn't clean my son's teeth thoroughly, I looked in the mirror, he only cleaned one side of my teeth. I told him right away, he was a bit embrassed, and cleaned the other side for me. We never went back, we found another dentist. Can't imagine if he forgets something during the dental surgery. I wouldn't recommand this dentist.

Saw this dentist and he recommended some major work - I guess he needs to pay for his office after all!! I went to another dentist for a second opinion and was not suggested the same!

I found the Dr. to be pushy and not very "patient friendly". He seemed to pushing me to having services that I felt was not ready for - very money oriented.
