Dr. Serena Liu’s journey from the prairies of Saskatoon to the bustling dental community of Bow Trail Dental in Calgary is a testament to her dedication to both her profession and personal passions. Born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Dr. Liu developed an early interest in science and philosophy. This fascination led her to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Saskatchewan, where she graduated with distinction. Eager to combine her scientific knowledge with a desire to serve her community, Dr. Liu continued her education at the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Dentistry. Here, she embarked on a dual degree program, earning both a Bachelor of Science in Dentistry and a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. During her time at dental school, Dr. Liu's commitment to public health and community service shone through in community clinics. Her research project focused on developing innovative dental health strategies tailored for families in Northern Saskatchewan communities, where access to oral care can be challenging. This experience underscored her belief in personalized care and the importance of empowering patients through education and preventive measures. Upon completing her dental training, Dr. Liu was drawn to Calgary’s, where she found a perfect fit for her holistic approach to dentistry at Bow Trail Dental. Her goal remains steadfast: to instill confidence in her patients by addressing their dental and oral health needs comprehensively. Fluent in both English and Cantonese Chinese, Dr. Liu ensures that language is never a barrier to quality care, welcoming a diverse range of patients into her practice. Beyond dentistry, Dr. Liu has a deep passion for photography. She seamlessly transitions from being a meticulous dental professional to a skilled film and digital photographer, specializing in weddings, portraits, and fashion. She’s an enthusiastic soccer player, participating in multiple leagues across Calgary, and an avid sport rock climber, often found challenging the heights with her friend and colleague, Dr. Kim, at Rocky CCC. Dr. Liu cherishes her time with loved ones, whether it’s bonding over board games or exploring new adventures together. Why should patients choose you as their provider instead of others in the area?

My aim is to provide a safe space for everyone at the dentist. I want to be able to help create a plan together that best matches the patient's goals while providing tailored and unbias dental advice. I am also fluent in Cantonese and hope to create better access to care by providing services in Cantonese.

What are the top 3 treatments that you focus on?

I really love ALL aspects of dentistry but if I have to pick my top 3 it would be fillings, working with kids, and oral surgery.

What are you proud of in your practice?

I'm most proud of our team! We have the best people here to help our patients to be best taken care of under any setting.

Which cases do you enjoy treating? Why?

I truly enjoy treating all patients. However, one of the most rewarding cases is to see a patient leave the office with confidence in their smile after helping them with their concerns.
